4. Gold Line (Announced April 2026, 42 km, Dubai’s first fully underground metro)
On April 22, 2026, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid will inaugurate Dubai Metro Line 1, which will extend 42 km below ground and interconnect Business Bay, Bur Dubai, and 15 different localities throughout the emirate. Approximately 1.5 million residents will use the new system as well. Timeline not yet confirmed.

How the Nol Card Works
You cannot pay cash at metro gates. You need a Nol card. It is a smart prepaid card issued by the RTA. Each time you enter or exit through the gate, you’ll tap your card to register the trip. Your ride fare will depend on the number of zones you pass through, and this fare will be deducted from your account. You will be charged a fare based on the number of zones, with the following examples of how much you would be charged for riding: AED 3 if you ride to just one zone, AED 5 if you ride to two zones, and AED 7.50 if you ride to three or more zones. If you ride to more than one zone on any given day using a Silver or Blue card, then your maximum amount for the day is AED 14.
