How Much Does Salik Cost?

All 10 Salik Toll Gates in Dubai

1. Al Khail Road (E44) runs parallel with Sheikh Zayed Road and is previously free from Salik for much of its length. Although Business Bay Crossing Gate was opened for business in late 2024, many sections remain Salik-free and toll-free.
2. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311) provides a full outer ring road connecting most areas in Dubai without using Salik gates, making this route perfect for travel between areas like Al Quoz, Dubai South, and Silicon Oasis.
3. Al Rebat Street and local roads in Deira, Bur Dubai, and Al Karama bypass several toll gates for slightly increased traffic but at no Salik costs if traveling within city boundaries for short inner-city trips.
4. Between 1 am and 6 am daily, all gates at Dubai International Airport are completely free for use, perfect for night shift workers and early travelers heading toward Dubai’s International Airport.

Salik Fines and Dubai Traffic Laws

Running a Salik gate without a tag or with an insufficient balance carries an AED 50 fine on top of the toll charge. You have five working days to recharge your account and settle any unpaid toll fees before the fine is applied.

If you are driving a rental car and pass through a Salik gate, the charge is logged against the car’s registered tag. The rental company tracks all usage during your rental period. Some companies include a daily Salik allowance. Others charge you the actual tolls plus a small administration fee on return. 

Some Important Traffic Laws 

Seatbelt use is mandatory for all passengers in Dubai, even rear passengers, including rear seat occupants. Driving while using your mobile phone without using hands-free technology carries an AED 800 fine; U-turns must only occur at designated points, and stop signs must always be obeyed strictly. Parking in no-parking zones (such as yellow kerb areas or yellow no-parking zones) incurs fines and towing, while the left lane of highways must only ever be used for overtaking purposes, not cruising.
